James joined Greenwoods as a partner in 2008, having previously worked for two national insurance practices, recognizing the opportunities presented by the opening of the Manchester office to provide a highly specialised service to insurers.

James qualified in 1996 and since then has worked exclusively for insurers or self insured companies. His experience includes not only the defence of employers' (disease and accident), motor and public liability claims but also product liability and fire/flood claims.

In addition to insurers, James' client base ranges from major UK logistics companies through to third tier automotive industry manufacturers, bus/coach/caravan manufacturers, and national pub chains.

Notable/ reported cases include:-

• The Scania Series 4 Group Litigation - Product Liability/ Personal injury Class Action;
• Phillips v Henlys - High Court VWF case;
• Fenby and Hartley v Plaxton - Lead Tinnitus actions preventing a flood of further claims;
• Darbyshire v Alexander Dennis - Lead deafness claim successfully defended

In his spare time, James enjoys exercising in the gym, supporting Manchester City, and, since the birth of his two young children, trying to emulate restaurant standard cooking in the home as his ability to regularly eat out has all but disappeared.
