Edward Garnier Re-Appointed to Conservative Front Bench
Harborough MP and Greenwoods consultant Edward Garnier QC has been re-appointed to his Front Bench team by David Cameron in the re-shuffle of responsibilities of Opposition spokesmen.
Commenting on his appointment Edward said "I have been appointed Shadow Minister for Justice dealing, as before when I was Shadow Home Affairs Minister, with criminal justice, prisons, probation and offender management but with added responsibilities for constitutional issues and the relationship between the judiciary, the courts and the Government and Parliament. I have been working on my prisons and criminal justice brief over the last 18 months and am looking forward to continuing that work and holding Jack Straw, the Secretary of Sate for Justice and Lord Chancellor and his team to account in the Commons. We have plenty of legislation to deal with - the Offender Management Bill is about to return to the Commons from the Lords and yet another Criminal Justice Bill, the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill - the 65th statute to do with the criminal law since 1997 - is about to hit the Commons ."
Greenwoods' Senior Partner, Paul Parsons, said: "We are delighted by Edward's new appointment as it will enable him to keep the firm and our clients in close touch with developments in the law affecting our practice and the work of our clients, especially in the insurance world. Insurers are increasingly being hit by fraudsters, big and small, and Edward's work on the Fraud Bill last year was key to our clients' concerns. The new Ministry of Justice which he now shadows deals with both civil and criminal law reform and practice so we will be in a good position to know in advance of the competition how best to advise and guide our clients."
