Insurance Fraud

  • Commercial and domestic insurance fraud
  • Suspected arson, staged theft and exaggerated damage

Insurers are identifying ever-increasing numbers of fraudulent claims that are high value and “first party”. These involve the full range of commercial fraud, including motor trade and property claims, and high value domestic claims involving houses, yachts and high performance cars. Typically, we deal with suspected arson, staged theft and other deliberate or exaggerated material damage claims.

Acting for a wide range of insurers, Greenwoods has extensive experience in this area. Our Counter Fraud Group, ably supported by Greenwoods’ Intelligence Resource, is on hand to provide a quick but very thorough assessment of the evidence collated to date. We work closely together with loss adjusters, forensic scientists, accountants and special investigators in order to maximise the insurer’s prospects of successful repudiation at an early stage.

When there is reason to doubt the good faith of the insured, but little evidence to prove it, we have the required expertise in policy coverage to provide insurers with other possible lines of defence, such as non-disclosure of material facts by the insured and breaches of conditions or warranties.

We are also aware of the public relations implications of such claims and ensure that careful media management is put in place as necessary.
