Mark Aizlewood joins Greenwoods as Head of Professional Indemnity

Greenwoods are delighted to announce the arrival of Mark Aizlewood, Partner and Head of its Professional Indemnity Practice, based in the Firm’s London Market Office in Gracechurch Street. Mark, a recognised leader in the field of Professional Indemnity defence work, joins from Robin Simon LLP where he was, until recently, head of the firm’s London office.

Paul Parsons, Senior Partner at Greenwoods said, “Mark is a heavy weight professional indemnity expert who brings with him a wealth of expertise in defending claims against a variety of professionals as well as management experience. Mark will be responsible for developing and strengthening our existing offering to our insurance clients and establishing us as a law firm of choice in this area.”

Mark was admitted as a solicitor in 1991 since which time he has specialised in dealing with claims made against professional firms and their professional indemnity insurers. Mark has particular expertise in dealing with claims against solicitors, construction professionals, valuers, accountants and insurance intermediaries. Mark is also instructed by solicitors, surveyors and accountants defending regulatory and disciplinary proceedings brought by governing bodies. Mark has wide experience of presenting seminars to clients and multipliers, covering topics both of a technical nature and broader issues of risk management.

He joined Greenwoods in 2012 as a partner to head the firm’s Professional Indemnity Group having, until then, led teams based both in the City and in the regions. Mark is consistently recommended by both Legal 500 and Chambers.

Recent cases

In recent years, Mark has dealt with claims including:

mediated settlement of a multi million pound (£14m) Commercial Court claim against an insurance TPA;
settlement of claim against solicitors (£3m) arising out of £500m fraud in the middle east;
settlement of multi party claim against solicitors (£1.5m) arising from tax advice dealing with investments in US securities;
acting for solicitors in “group litigation” following settlement of VWF/miner claims;
acting for insurance brokers (£2m) in coverage dispute with excess layer insurers following PPI claims fallout;
acting for architects in a multi party construction claim (£2m+) arising from a PFI education project; and
achieving early and favourable settlements of lender claims against solicitors brought following the banking crisis.
